Which animals are in the word search?
Fifty animal names, of which each sheet hides between 4 and 15: cat, dog, fish, bird, bear, duck, frog, lion, cow, pig, horse, tiger and the rest a child of 5 to 8 already knows by ear. Every new sheet draws different ones, so two printouts in a row never share a list.
What age is this word search for?
From 5 with the 8×8 grid and words placed across and down only: the names are short and the child hunts for the first letter. From 7, move to 12×12 or 15×15 with diagonals and backwards words, which forces reading letter by letter in both directions.
