Regrouping, which is the hard part
Second grade is the year of carrying and borrowing. It is where most children get stuck, and usually the problem is not the regrouping itself but the mental arithmetic underneath it. That is why number bonds and missing number sit here: once a child knows without thinking that 7 and 3 make 10, regrouping stops being an obstacle and becomes one more step.
Telling time and money
Clocks and coins both arrive this year, and both are learned better by handling them than by filling in blanks. The clock game has three modes, read the time, point to it and draw the hands, and the money game uses the coins and notes a child sees in a shop. Both run on a phone with nothing to install.
