What maths does a 5 year old do?

Preschool schemes of work agree fairly closely: counting reaches 10, sums stay small, up to 7 early in the year and up to 10 by the end, and subtraction appears only with pictures to lean on. Greater than and less than signs are not for this age, they come several years later. At five, comparing is something you say out loud: more than, fewer than, the same as.

Letters: capitals first, then lowercase

The whole alphabet gets covered, and the usual order is the capital first and the lowercase after it.
